Michelangelo

What is Michelangelo?

  • Michelangelo is a reporting tool developed at the University of Washington. We have partnered with UW to implement the tool here at UT.
  • Our implementation of the Michelangelo tool is geared towards building lists of people, primarily for major gift prospecting, but it can be used for other types of lists as well.
  • The tool is named Michelangelo because the general idea is that you start with the entire VIP database of alumni and donors and “chisel” down your list to just the entities that you need.

How to Access Tool

  • Select UT Advancement to begin using the tool.

Will this replace Cognos?

  • Michelangelo is not going to replace Cognos. However, Michelangelo does provide a much better user interface for building lists of people.
  • We think that Michelangelo has the potential to be a great tool for searching through our database of alumni and donors.
  • The tool is primarily geared towards researchers, gift officers, and gift officer assistants but it is useable by anyone with VIP access.

Which records get sent to Michelangelo?

  • Living or Active Entities (Excludes records that are deceased, inactive, test or placeholders)

How often is the data updated?

  • Michelangelo is updated every night but due to the large amount of data being processed, information can lag anywhere from 24 -48 hours.  If you have any questions about why some data is or isn’t included, please contact one of the analysts on the RAD Team.

Is training required to access tool?

  •  If you are able to access the Michelangelo link above, then you have already been granted access. If you cannot click on the link above, then you can request access by contacting reporting@austin.utexas.edu
  • The tool is more straight forward than other reporting tools and does not require formal training.  If you do have any questions while using the tool, a demo is provided as part of the standard Reporting training class VI 220.
